Aspirations Programme

The Aspirations Programme
The Aspirations Programme is a purpose-driven approach to learning pioneered by DJ BEN, Founder of Aspirations International Academy.
This approach has been implemented across multiple schools of different curricula and has consistently helped students become:
- more motivated
- more independent
- more confident learners
Students not only improve academically, but also begin to discover what they are naturally drawn to and what they truly care about.
We integrate your child’s aspiration into their lesson materials and integrate what they learn in English and Maths into their aspirations. Right now, we have 5 tracks. Click on one of them to find out what each track offers.
An Example Of How It Works
Emma is a P1 student who loves learning about plants and aspires to do something in botany one day. It is amazing that she has such a noble aspiration at such a young age. Even if she might change her aspiration one day, her aspiration now is her magic tool to learning.
She is motivated to learn English well because she wants to read up and learn more about botany and plants. She also pays attention in Mathematics because, besides knowing the importance of Maths in her daily life, she is able to see how Maths plays out in her future as a botanist. As she learns English and Maths with AIA, she is also given practice questions and papers related to botany and plants.
She signs up for AIA’s Aspirations Programme. Since her interest is in botany, she joins the Discovery & Innovation Class on Saturdays at 10am, as botany is related to the science field. There, Emma researches on different plants, expriments with plants, and eventually grows her own plants. As she progresses, she begins to file up her notes on different types of plants and records of her experiments. In Aspirations Class, she applies skills acquired in English and Maths to her passion. By the end of one year, Emma is not only proficient and academically competent in English and Maths, she has built a portfolio which supports her opportunities to pursue botany one day, if she chooses to continue on that path. Even when it comes to university, such a portfolio helps her score points with the university if she chooses to enrol in a course related to botany or plants.
The goal of the Aspirations Programme is 3 fold:
- Students are motivated to learn because of their aspirations.
- Students are able to connect what they learn in the classroom to practical, daily, living and their desired professions.
- Students are able to achieve their aspirations at young age or build a portfolio that takes them closer to their aspirations, while achieving distinctions in school. Age is just a number and academia can complement aspirations.
For Students With No Aspirations Or Wish To Explore More Options First
Students with no aspirations or have an aspiration but wish to explore more before deciding on anything can follow the following Aspirations Map.
Level 1: Explore Aspirations Domains
Level 2: Choose an Aspirations Track
Level 3: Complete real-world projects
Level 4: Be mentored by professionals
Level 5: Showcase their work
Students will start at Level 1, which is the exploration level. They focus on learning about different kinds of aspirations (professions). When they are ready, they can choose an aspiration (Level 2). Once they have chosen their level, they will be given tasks to complete to help them grow in their aspiration. At the same time, their lesson materials in English and Maths will have questions and examples related to their aspirations.

A Real Example
One of DJ BEN’s students (name changed to Andrew to protect his identity) aspired to become a chef.
Instead of relying purely on traditional worksheets, DJ BEN (Founder of AIA) aligned Andrew’s learning with his interest in culinary arts.
In English:
- he wrote menus, recipes, and narratives
In Mathematics:
- he applied measurements, managed portions, and calculated costs
However, the learning did not stop in the classroom.
Andrew was given the opportunity to cook for a real audience. He prepared grilled chicken dishes as part of a full dining experience, working alongside his peer. He even had the opportunity to create and plate his own dishes.
The Result?
Andrew produced better written work and mathematical skills. His motivation towards learning increased. Andrew also had greater confidence through a real-world experience. Most importantly, Andrew experienced what it means to pursue his aspirations without neglecting his studies and doing well in both areas.
